XP SP1a update problem

I just installed SP1a for XP professional. After the
reboot, my mouse does not function (USB) nor does my
internet connection (DSL connected via internal NIC). If
I connect a regular mouse to the serial port, it does
work. Any suggestions? I've yet to try uninstalling the
service pack.
 
Also, if I have to do a system restore, what do I do about
loading the service pack?
