Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

With AOL 9.0 and McAfee Virus Scan (probably the free version offered by AOL,
right?) it's not surprising that the system is getting slow. In addition to the
info PA Bear provided in his reply re: possible malware, have a look here at the
comments and solutions mentioned re: the "McLogEvent Could not contact Filter
Driver" error you are getting:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=5004&eventno=800&source=McLogEvent&phase=1

If this error is preventing McAfee Anti-Virus from loading, you may well have
malware getting onto your system.

If you are using the free version of McAfee from AOL, uninstall it, and install
Avast Free Anti-Virus Home Edition instead:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

I suggest you go through the procedures PA Bear has listed in his reply after that.
