Clock and date come up wrong all the time.
System logs onto windows but ends in blank screen before password
comes up, then I have to unplug as off button doesn't work.

Have done defrag & disk clean up.

Since so many different applications are failing and you report that the
system won't keep the time properly, etc. - there is a high probability
that this is hardware-related and not Windows.

I would suggest testing the RAM and the hard drive and replacing the
CMOS battery to start with. Here are general hardware troubleshooting steps:

How To Replace The CMOS Battery In Your PC -

Standard caveat: Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out
suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing
yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigStoreUSA). Have all your data backed up before you take
the machine into a shop.
