Computer hanging up after installing service pack 2

After installing service pack 2 on my XP home, my computer hangs up after
running for awhile. When I try to reboot I recieve a stop error, and then it
keeps restarting over and over again. When it happens I have to completely
reinstall XP Home edition. Any ideas about what is going on, and how to
correct it?

After you installed SP2 did you go to Windows Update and check for any
additional updates.
The SP2 download/disk might be old enough that additional updates to correct
"issues" have been posted to the update site.

Diable auto restart
Then when the computer stops, copy the entire message and post it here.
Someone will be able to help determine the cause of the problem.

Before you installed SP2, did you:
1. Examine Microsoft's instructions on how to prepare your system for XP?
2. Examine the instructions by the maker of your computer for the same?
3. Disconnect all devices which are not needed to complete the upgrade?

If the existing system has malware, SP2 is likely to fail.

Okay it has hung up yet again. I have all updates installed, and it suddenly
froze. Upon restart this is the entire error screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut dwon to prevent damage
to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for
any windows update you might need.

If problems continue, disable to remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use safe mode to remove ro disable components, restart your computer,
press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode

Technical information:

***STOP: 0X000000ED (0X81BE2BB8, 0XC000009C, 0X000000000, 0X00000000)

That is everything on my screen. I have done everything on this screen and
it won't even boot in safe mode.

HELP!!!!!!

Okay I ran recovery console and it now boots. I also disabled processor
memory cache in BIOS. Now I have another problem, I can't open any programs
after I log into my administrator account.

Okay I ran recovery console and it now boots, but I can't run any programs in
my administrator account. How do I fix this issue?

After shutting my system down completely overnight it now is running just
fine. When I booted it this morning it said that there was a problem with my
disks, and checked those and fixed some errors. After logging into the
administrator's account it is workin like it was never messed up. Any ideas
to what caused this goofy behaviour and what I can do to keep it from
happening again?
