My computer has been freezing in the middle of things and also shutting down
at times. It has been in the shop and they could not find anything wrong
with the computer. ram has been added and nothing seems to work.
Virus scans have been done - with no virus found.
Please help!

sdtay,

Please provide the following information to further assist in troubleshooting:

Version of Windows
Make and Model of the PC that you are Running:
Service Pack Number if Applicable:

Thanks!

Regards,

I have a similar problem (sorry to butt in on your post). I'm running XP
Professional, SP2 on a Compaq Presario AMD Athlon. Event viewer shows errors
at the time of freezing and rebooting as follows:

Type: Error, Date, Time, Source: Security Center, Category: None, Event: 1802

Properties for this line show the following in the description:

The Windows Security Center Service was unable to establish event queries
with WMI to monitor third party AntiVirus and Firewall.

This is where I get stuck! All further links/searches in Microsoft are
fruitless. Can anybody help?

I've got the Security Center Firewall and Automatic Update switched on but
am using Norton Antivirus so Virus Protection is not monitored. I've done
anti-virus and spyware checks.

Thanks!

I am using windows xp home edition 2002 with service pack 2
I have a Intel celeron processor
Any advice is greatly appreciated, as my computer is about to visit the
dumpster
and I am about to visit the mental home!

alrighty...real quick, is this a name brand computer? sometimes the
manufacturer will have issues with windows releases and service packs and
provide updates for you to download. If this is a name brand PC, then I
would be more than happy to locate the updates for you. Also, if this is a
custom pc, you might want to find out the make and model of the motherboard.
As there have been known driver compatibility issues with some mobos and
Service Pack 2.

If you are unable to determine the make and model easily, you can download a
program to assist you from motherboards.org. The link for the tools is here:

http://motherboards.org/tools/downloads.html

Regards,

The computer is not a name brand - the motherboard disc says "supermicro"
820/810x chipset based motherboard.
When the computer does shut down by itself - the error says "error caused by
a device driver"

sdtay,

do you have a .NET/Passport account? If so, please contact me via msn. I'd
like to arrange to do some troubleshooting with you in real time. Thanks!

Regards,

my computer is just shutting down and I don't know what to do. Does anyone
have any ideas?
