computer freezes up?

Hi, D. J.

We can't help much without more information. You can see your computer; we
can't. YOU are our ONLY source of information about it.

Strange as it seems, heat is one of the most frequent causes of "freezing"
computers. By "freeze", I assume you mean what the techs call "hang". It
simply stops working (apparently) and does not respond to either the
keyboard or mouse. Often, the cause is inadequate cooling of the CPU or
other parts of the computer. That's why most PCs these days are noisy:
they have at least one and maybe several fans running inside, cooling the
various components. One of your computer's fans may have quit, or at least
slowed down.

Other possible reasons for the hang are loose or damaged cables or
connectors, dirty or corroded connectors, loose chips, failing power
supply...and on and on.

Tell us MUCH more about your computer, its environment (hot tent in the
Sahara? or cold igloo in Alaska?), and about the software you run and how
you run it. What happens just before the hang? Does it ever come back?
How long have you waited for it to come back?

We probably don't need to know ALL of this, but it sure would be easier for
us to help you if you tell us SOMETHING!
