Computer Freezes at start up

Computer was working well, I shut the computer down and later rebooted the
computer and it frooze up before the windows screen came up. I have tried
rebooting it and I got the same results. I tried F8 and using my restore CD
and still get the same results. I need help

At what specific point does it frooze??
Specs of your Machine??
Type of "restore CD" ?? homemade/OEM.....version of XP?????

The generic answer would be to insert your retail copy of XP and do a repair
installation....then redo all of the updates.

I would guess some piece of hardware is not working. Most likely candidate,
Display Adapter. If the video device is actually a card in a slot of the
motherboard, it may have come loose.
Alternatively, a Repair setup failure may indicate something wrong with the
hard drive. I would go to the Command Prompt in the F8 menu, and run the
command:
CHKDSK /R
