Computer denied access to "MSHOME" network

Hard drive crashed and was replaced with new one, and XPSP2 installed, along
with other programs, data, etc. Now am unable to successfully reinstall home
network. Have used the Network Setup wizard several times, always with same
result: Wife's laptop sees both computers in the network, but my desktop
gets this message when I click to see computers in networK: "MSHOME is not
accessible. You might have to have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access
permission." The computers are connected to the internet thru a Linksys 4
port router. Both computers reach the internet without a problem, but mine
can't see the home network, and therefor hers can not print on my printer.
There was no problem with any of this before the new hard drive was put in.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Dean

Sounds like a firewall/user account problem.....disable the firewall and see
if that does anything.

Thanks, Gordon. That succeeded in getting both computers to see the other in the MSHOME group. However, I stilll can't get my wife's computer to print on my printer. Hers sees the printer, the name is correct, it is her default printer, etc. Crazy! Both computers indicate the printer uses a USB port, etc. The wife's computer does not even indicate a failed printer attempt. I'm baffled. Dean

Try re-installing the printer software on the wife's pc, uninstall from
add-remove programs & re-install using the CD-ROM.
Mike.

Thanks for the reply. Another post, I believe from "Chuck", that was not a reply to mine, led me to finding "NetworkMagic.com", which is a great program for setting up a home network. There is a free version, and a premium version, which is not expensive. Using the free version, my home network is setup and working fine. I believe one of the things it does that perhaps Microsoft does not do well, is set the firewall settings correctly ( I use Norton Inernet security.) Any way, I highly recommend Network Magic. Thanks to all. Dean
