compressing photos

I am new at all of this and a online student to beat it all. I need help
compressing a photo in a word document. Can anyone help?

If what you mean is decreasing the size of the image file (so it loads
faster and downloads quicker) but keeping the image the same ... reduce
the size of the image ... if your image is, say, 2000 x 1200 pixels, you
might want to resize it to, say 500 x 300 to greatly reduce the file
size. Image editors have a menu item to do this. Do you have Microsoft
Photo Editor, or a similar utility on your system?

Save the image as .jpg or .gif to compress the image. Then insert it into the
Word doc.
Jpg and gif are compressed file formats.
