compressed folders - no password option visible

I have compressed folders (highlighted blue) in windows
explorer/my computer. XP help tells me I should be able
to
do the following, but I don't see the 'add a pasword'
option in the pull down menu.


- Find the folder (it should be on your desktop)
- Open the folder
- Click on "File" in the menu bar.
- Click on the add a password option on the menu.
- Type in your password


- type the password in the 'Confirm Password' box.

Is this some kind of configurable option ?

Hi banzai,

You've posted this enough times, you need to be more patient. Are you
zipping the file(s) first? It's not enough to just be compressed. You have
to be within the zipped folder to use that function.

Sorry for lack of patience

1) If I open explorer & select File, I don't get an option for 'New
Compressed Folder'
2) If I create a folder (File>New Folder) in explorer, I can highlight,
right click, select properties, advanced and check 'compress to save disk
space'
3) Now, in the same explorer window, if I highlight the compressed folder
should I not see an option below 'File' which reads 'Add a password' ?

1 & 3 above don't seem to be visible for my xp pro system

Hi,

That's not enough. You are compressing the folder, but you are not zipping
it. Right-click, send to-->compressed (zipped) folder. Then go into the .zip
folder and click file, there is where you can add the password.
