Component will not install

My hard drive (with XP Pro on it) crapped out on me the other day. Tonight I installed the new drive, and starting the process of getting XP Pro onto it. After it copied the installation files, and the computer restarted, it tells me that one of the components could not be installed. (being the l386\asms file). I put the disc into my other computer's cd drive to browse, and the file seems to be intact, so I did a clean install again, but came up with the same problem. Any suggestions?
