XP-Pro re-install failure

"file not found on ZP re-install"

When doing an XP re-install of an XP Pro upgrade installation, after the first
re-boot, a dialog box reports that a file maned "asms" is needed from the
installation CD, prompting with a path of- D:\I386.
The Installation CD is in the drive, but no such file exists on the CD, only
an "ASMS" directory. Canceling the dialog exits the installation process.
I can find no way around this, and cannot complete the re-install.
Can you help?

I will make that call. However, I looked for that same file on a full install
CD and could not find it there, either. What are the odds that the same file
would be missing from 2 different CDs?

No, with two, it must be your CD drive entries. I suggest the registry
modification described in this article to upper and lower filters on your cd
registry entries.

The file 'Asms' on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed error message
when you install Windows XP:
