trouble with reinstall of windows xp pro

I had to re install windows xp pro, I have the original disc. Everything
started out fine then I got a syntax error asms file path not found, I am
assuming this is something missing off the disc.

Now everytime I reboot it goes right to restarting install and gives me the
same error, Im stuck and cant do anything.

My question is simple, "what can I do?" some detailed info would be helpful
on how to correct this. My comp knowledge is limited. Thank you.

Installing Windows is not for someone whose "comp knowledge is limited."
Seriously.

Did you attempt a re-install or a clean install?

A re-install installs Windows over an existing copy of Windows.

A clean install erases the hard disk and starts fresh.

Are you using a legitimate retail Windows installation CD?
