Adding Windows XP components

Win XP crashed so I paid a techie service to save what they could from my
hard drive, format the hard drive and reload Win XP. I noticed that
somethings like Windows messeging did not get reloaded on the puter.

When I attempted to add the componet, Windows Messenger, I got a warning
that it could not find a certain .dll file. That surprised me cause I could
aways add Win 98 components whenever I wanted. All necessary files were on
the Win 98 install disc.

My Dell computer came with a Win XP install disc but I keep getting the
notice. How do I get these components installed.

The Windows Messaging service is generally disabled by default with SP2
because for most standalone computers and many small networks, it has no
legitimate use and is a target for spam attacks. If you want MS Messenger,
that's an entirely different thing, and you might consider downloading MSN
messenger instead. MS Messenger itself is, however, is needed for other
things like Remote Assistance.

Go to Control Panel, Add/remove software, Windows components. Choose the
components you wish.
