Component Services question

In preparing for a disk cloning procedure I took a look at
Control Panel> Admin. tools> Component Services...... 'Holy Somoly'
there's a bucket load of services starting and running! As a home user
with a single computer (WinXP. Home service pack2) I don't think I
need all the excess stuff. I'm not on a network. (Or, is being
connected to broadband considered the same thing)? This whole thing
started when I read Distributed Link Tracking Windows Service could be
a problem for me. I only have the one OS on my computer. Anyway, is
there an easy to understand description of what can and can't be
disabled, out there somewhere? TIA.

There are various sites that address this. Look at the information and if in
doubt, leave things alone.
