I have a usb wireless card on desktop that connects me to internet through
neighbors comcast open access. good connection. My laptop has wireless
also. The signal for comcast only comes in where my desktop is. Now, I have
the Uniden WNR2004 wireless router. How would I configure my hardware to
make the internet accessible to my laptop through MY router, so that I may
increase my internet connections mobility throughout my house?

Polly,

What you need to do is to turn your router into a repeater. Your router has to
operate in Wireless Distribution Mode. If that can be done (and I don't see WDS
mentioned in the router docs), it will cut your bandwidth in half.

IF you really want to rebroadcast your neighbours service (and the legal and
moral issues aside), you might want to get a second router that will operate as
a WiFi bridge, connect the two, then use the WNR2004 to distribute the signal
thru your house. And put the WNR2004 on a different channel.

If the Desktop also has an RJ45 port for an ethernet cable, then you can
connect it to a LAN port on the WNR2004. Disable the WNR2004's DHCP
function and change its LAN IP to 192.168.0.254; on the Desktop enable ICS
on the wireless connection; and connect the laptop wirelessly to the
WNR2004. You could also bridge the connections, but this is not a good idea
in this scenario.
