Completely remove McAfee

Hello,

I have a Dell PC which had McAfee Internet Security installed on it. I had
subscibed to this and had installed many updates. Now, my ISP is providing
Norton AntiVirus free of charge and so I want to use that.

However, I am unable to completely remove the McAfee software from my
system. I have folloewd through lots of steps given by McAfee support to
reomve the software. They now insist that there is no trace of the software
on my system. However, the Norton Antivirus will not install and says that I
must fist uninstall McAfee Security Suite 2005.

I am at a total loss as to what to do now.

You probably need to reformat. Get Avast, http://www.avast.com/, a free
AV that is rated higher than those two. I would stay as far away from
McAfee and Norton as you possibly can.

Firstly look in add and remove programs and uninstall anything that could be
to do with McAfee.

Secondly check program files folder or location where McAfee was installed
and delete installation folders if they have been left behind from the
uninstall.

Thirdly download CCleaner and use the registry cleaner, make sure you backup
your registry when the program prompts you.

I personally would not trust a free antivirus on my computer, take a look at
NOD32 antivirus, its extremly good and is my choice in protecting my
computers and my clients.

Hope that info helps ?

This only leaves one asking, "How secure is NIS2005"?
Even Symantic SymNRT removal tool could not remove some files after

I went over to AVG, my advice is use anything but..

Why is it the biggest names in internet (eg AOL) and
internet protection (eg McAfee, Norton) always end up as
FDISK / FORMAT to remove them completely?

Percentage of suckers versus people who don't get taken in easily?
