Norton system works incompatibility with McAfee antivirus

Have just purchased a new Dell PC and am running McAfee antivirus. Having
used Nortons utilities for a dozen years I decided to purchase and run that
on the PC. I got System Works and surprise, surprise it says to delete
McAfee as they are incompatible. Bloody oafish computer companies. McAfee
are as bad. I wanted to run Zone Alarm with McAfee antivirus. The McAfee
firewall was also installed and wouldn't disable and so I had to uninstall
Security Centre and then buy and install the AV.
I won't be using Symantec software in future. Is there other software which
does similar things to Norton utilities and is more compatible? Or is it
unnecessary with XP Home?
The world is going to hell in a handbasket

SystemWorks also includes Norton Antivirus. To install this without removing
McAfee A/V, you must do a custom install and de-select Norton Antivirus from
the install.

It is unnecessary for you to run Norton Utilities in XP. Here's a brief
section on maintenance:

There isn't a custom install option. The following comes in at the very
start of installation.
"The programs listed below (McAfee Security Center, McAfee Virus Scan) are
incompatible with this Norton product. It is recommended that you remove
these programs and restart before proceeding. Click Open Add/Remove Programs
to uninstall these programs."
