completely lost: nothing is working properly

Hello
I have dell dimension windows xp sp2. my pc was formatted recently and now
nothing is working properly.
1- in help and support center "index" is empty and when I click on related
topics the "notes" icon multiplies.
2- links in emails are not working. I just get a blank page.
I feel these two issues are connected, but can't figure how.
I tried all possible solutions and nothing worked.
I did a repair installation and nothing helped.
if this is not the right forum please tell me where to post my problem.
thank you

perhaps, you had problems
before and that is why you
tried the format and install
option.

so it may seem that either
you have not told us enough
and you may still have other
issues yet to be discovered.

the problem could be as
simple as a faulty keyboard.

my suggestion is to reboot
and tap the f8 key continuously
until you get the boot menu.

then test your system under
safe mode and then try the
safemode with networking
options.

db, thank you for your reply. the problems I had before have nothing to do
with this. I wanted to change the vga card and at the same time wantd a clean
install.
I tried the safe mode option and it didn't help. my windows version is (oem
dell) xp home sp2.
now I got the notification of your reply in my email but couldn't open the
link from there.. this is really frustrating. I can't remember now how to ask
for help from one of microsfot experts, and I am stuck in nowhere.

Did you install the chipset drivers from the other Dell CD? (Other than the
one which contains XP).
Things tend to not work right if you don't install them.

Hello Jim, last night I decided to buy a new windows xp liecnce.. and gave up
trying.
for my (bad or good) luck today is Saturday, so there is no way to do
anything about this, and I have to wait until Monday.
strange enough, today when I saw the notification of your reply in my email
and clicked on the link, the link page opened smoothly and nicely!
now while I am replying to your post I also tried the "help and support
center", the index is there and the links to "related topics" worked like a
miracle. I don't understand, I don't know what happened. I couldn't solve
this problem yesterday and now it was solved by itself...
to answer your question, yes, the chipests were installed..
I only wish to know what caused the problem and what solved it.
have a nice day.
