compatibility issues

I have Windows XP Proffesional (5.1, build 2526) and
directX 8.1 installed and have been trying to upgrade to
directX 9.0 but keep on getting an error message
saying "This version of DirectX is not compatible with
the version of Windows currently installed".

I did download the XP version of the directX websetup and
am having the same compatibility issues with installing
Media Player 9.0 "This version of Windows Media Player
can be installed only on Windows XP and Windows .NET
Server"

I would be grateful for any help on this subject.

Your (5.1, build 2526) of Windows XP is an old and
obsolete "beta version" and is unsupported. You need to
install the released version (build 2600).
