compaq array controller 5300

One of my servers has just started acting up today after being in
production for 3 years. The drives lights are on constantly for about 1
minute then the last drive on the array stays lite and the other 3
flash and there is a whining noise coming from the last drive. It will
do this for about 2 minutes then go back into normal operations for
about 5 minutes and start the process again. The server seems to be
functioning fine, no performance lose and no messages in the log files.

anyone have any ideas?

You might want to try some drive diagnostic utility from the vendor.
