company name change

My company is changing its name and I need to rename my
domain and all my email addresses. Can anyone point me to
a nice clear knowledge base article with step by step
instructions? We have a mixed mode Windows 2000 and NT
domain.

You can't do it with a NT or 2000. You can do it with 2003 in native node,
but it's not easy and is not recommended.

You can create a new domain in a new forest and establish trusts, then use
the ADMT migration tool to move the users, computers and groups from one to
the other. This is also no small feat. We just did a similar move at our
organization. Make sure you test this tool thoroughly before using on a
real domain.

Controller or do you need another one? After the
migration are you back to a single domain or are there
still traces of the original left? Does the migration
affect the client PC's or just migrate the computer
accounts? Do you still need to change the domain on each
client PC?

I'm not following you here. When you add a NT 4.0 BDC to your domain and
replicate, your next step is to remove AD form all AD DCs. Then you promote
your NT 4.0 BDC to PDC and upgrade to Win 2k creating a forest/domain.
Your "existing" domain controllers at one point have Win 2k and AD on them,
then you add a NT 4.0 BDC, then remove AD from the Win 2k DCs. Now your
"existing" domain controller is the NT 4.0 BDC. When you promote, then
upgrade to Win 2k, your "existing" domain controller *should* be in the new
forest/domain you are setting up.

Removing AD by running dcpromo on all AD DCs will leave you with only a NT
4.0 BDC that you promote to PDC. You will have one domain.
