Command Prompt Haywire!

I used to be able to open up the command prompt box using Start/Run/cmd. But
when the box opens up, I get a black screen with the cursor running
continuously from upper left to bottom right! It's gone bonkers! Any other
DOS commands that I type into Start/Run ends up doing the same thing - just
the cursor going nuts. No text appears.

But when I use the shortcut in my Start/Programs menu, the box opens up
normally. Most times commands like IPCONFIG work fine, but sometimes the
cursor goes nuts again!

Anybody had this problem before? It only just started out of the blue.

The C:\WINDOWS\system32\Cmd.exe is probably corrupt.
Try copying over it with the spare in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\Cmd.exe

What happens if you...

Start | Run | Type: cmd.exe | Click OK ??

Start | Run | Paste the following line and click OK...

%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

What happens then?

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.
