command prompt problem

When I run a command prompt that generates a black dialog box, eg 'ipconfig'
or 'help', the black dialog box appears very briefly (approx 1 second) and
then disappears - this is a new problem - in the past I've used the command
prompt without encountering this.

Can anybody suggest how I can fix this? Thanks for any suggestions.

what method are you using to get to the command prompt?

In the Run dialog box, type "cmd" (without the quotes), click OK. NOW,
enter your "ipconfig", or whatever command you wish.
Heirloom, old and works for me

First run cmd. Start | Rum | cmd | Ok. That opens a command console.
Now type in the command and it will stay open.
