COM 1 NOT WORKING (loseing it)

The com 1 port keeps stoping working on my xp laptop
i have found other pepole who are haveing the same problem
on diffrent makes of xp laptops
if i uninstall the driver and reboot it will be ok for a
few days and then lose it again
please can any one help

Make sure the hardware is connected when booting or else go into Device
manager & "search for new hardware"
