Color quality stinks!!!!!

Please help!!! Every time I try to make a video on Windows movie maker, or
watch a video on my Windows XP like a dvd or a downloaded video, the color
quality comes out really dark, and well to put it lightly, rather crappy!!
What bugs me is whenever i have to watch a video that i either made or
downloaded, I have to go into the video settings of Windows media player and
manually make them lighter so I can see what's going on in the video and
thats only worse because its soo light, the color quality barely comes
through at all!! I want to know how to fix this problem permanently, and make
the color quality on the computer video clear and light, the way its supposed
to be!!!!!

Maybe you need to adjust your monitor
settings and it's possible that you need
to update your video driver.

BTW, I have an older CRT monitor and
I notice that the display gets a little darker
every year.
