Codec Required for *mpg (MPG2) not Installed - Warning

I'm new ... using Windows Movie Maker...
Tried to "Import video" ( a MPG2 clip) and got the following warning:

"The file D:\video.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

Where do I download the codec required for this import?

Hi, the MPEG-2 codec is not free. The best thing to do is purchase a
software DVD player like WinDVD or PowerDVD.
