Code 10 (Device Cannot Start)

I was using my Netgear MA401 PC wireless card a few weeks
ago and it was working perfectly (as it has been for a
year), then upon reboot, it is no longer identified and
the Device Manager states: Code 10 (Device Cannot Start).
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no
success. Netgear even sent me a new wireless card (same
model) and it still doesn't work. IT says no drivers are
installed but I have the disk in the CDROM drive as well
as downloaded the newer version and I try installing the
driver I get "Cannot Install Hardware. Could not find
necessary software". This can't be possible for the disk
is in the drive AND the drivers from Netgear's support
site are in a folder on my desktop and I've tried pointing
it directly there as well. Can someone help me?

Hi,

To resolve this issue, reinstall the drivers for your PC card cardbus
controller. For information about how to obtain and install PC card cardbus
controller drivers, contact the manufacturer of your PC card controller
assembly.

Code 10 means that the device definitely *is* identified, but the driver fails to start.
Possibly it is a wrong or misconfigured driver.
If you are unsure how to completely reinstall the driver, you may ask Netgear support
to do it on your machine over XP remote assistance, or call a local support specialist.
