cmd32.exe file missing after service pack 2 installed

Guest

After installing service pack 2, when I boot up the system starts much more
slowly and I get the error message "Windows cannot find
'C:\Windows\system32\cmd32.exe'. Make sure....". I saw on some other
newsgroup a suggestion to try and load the file from the XP CD I purchased.
But when I tried that I found that since I have loaded service pack 2, I
could not make any changes with the CD. Any suggestions on how I can get the
file and/or make the error message go away and speed up the startup?

Thanks

cmd32.exe has nothing to do with XP SP2.

[[cmd32.exe is added to the system as a result of the P2P.TANKED virus. This
program is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. If
found on your system make sure that you have downloaded the latest update
for your antivirus application.]]

[[This worm is spread via P2P application Kazaa. ]]

Update your anti virus software and run a full system scan.
You might want to dump Kazaa also.

The "cmd32.exe" is a virus file....you don't want to replace it.

Remove remnants of KWBot.Worm from the Registry and File System
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_clean_kwbot.htm

This worm causes an error message that "CMD32.EXE" cannot be found on startup.
The error message may also be that "system32.exe" cannot be found.

Note: You'll have to disable your antivirus program before running the repair.

OMG what cave have you spent the last 18 months living in?! I don't know
what newsgroups you've been reading, but may I strongly suggest you don't
read them in future? You're looking on the Windows CD for a *VIRUS* (OK,
strictly a Trojan).

cmd32 is not a legitimate file but malware. An entry has been left in
the startup to run it when an AV or Adware package has removed the file
itself (SP2 was just a coincidence). Start - Run MSConfig.exe and look
in the Startup page for the line concerned. Uncheck it. Exit - do not
bother to reboot, but next time you do there will be a message about
'System Configuration'. Check the 'Do not show again' box and exit
