CMD32.EXE

Alex

Is there a way I can copy the cmd32.exe file from my XP
cd? I lost this file when I recently removed one version
of the backdoor worms, and when my computer starts up
this alert pops up:

Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cmd32.exe.' MAke
sure you typed the name correctly...etc

Can I recover this file? I am having no performace issues
despite this small problem, but would like to see it get
resolved without having to reinstall everything....

Thanks
Alex

You didn't loose the file, and you don't want to recover it. the
file is not a Windows file, but is the virus that you removed.
You don't want it back.

You're now left with a reference to it that you also need to
remove.

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, Clean KWBot.Worm Registry
entries.

Or read
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.kwbot.c.worm.html
and pay particular attention to step 4 in the section headed
"removal instructions," near the bottom.

You didn't loose the file,

Ugh! I just hate it when someone spells "lose" as "loose," and
there I've done it myself. My apologies.

There is no such thing as cmd32.exe, there is a cmd.exe.
If you want to retrieve missing system files run SFC /SCANNOW
to check and replace files.
cmd32.exe was probably the worm in the first place. You need to load
msconfig.exe and remove the entry from the startup list.
