cmd.exe , ntvdm.exe , command.com ...don't work

I have this problem:
everytime i try to start the dos shell, or type cmd.exe or ntvdm.exe or
command.com or several dos commands, they don't work.
The computer tells me:
Application error
Application not correctly inizialized (0xc0000142). press click to close the
application.
After one week that i try, i can't find a solution. Could you help me, please?

It was already 512. I tried with 1280, but the system crashed. So, i
reinstalled Xp repairing what was wrong and now it works, lucly.
