cmd.exe - application error

I

itssw

Hi,

System Environment:
Windows XP with SP1
Administrator or other new opened users with admin rights login
The problem occurs in Safe Mode too.

I type cmd.exe on Run command line, it appears:

cmd.exe - Application Error

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK
to terminate the application.

I try to use ipconfig.exe, or ping.exe, I get the same error.

Any body can help?

Thank you.

try running command.com in the run line. - does this run
better. i have seen virus infected computers crash running
exe's. (AGOBOT.NL was one i recently found on a clients
computer) run virus scan. if this doesn't help - extract
another copy of the file from your original xp
installation cd. (it's hiding in a cab somewhere)

Please quote some of the post to which you are replying. To the original

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show?

You have either a virus or a trojan.
Update your Anti Virus software and run a complete scan.

First of all, note that what you call the " 'newest threads'
view" isn't even available to everyone. You're using the
web-based CDO interface (probably the worst possible way to
participate in newsgroups) but most of the rest of us are using
a variety of different newsreaders (I'm using Outlook Express,
for example). Don't make the mistake of assuming that what you
see is the same as what everyone else sees; that isn't even
necessarily true even if we were using the exact same newsreader.

No, that's not the only "important bit." When you post to a
newsgroup you're participating in a group discussion. Quoting the
message to which you're replying is a standard part of good
newsgroup etiquette, and for good reason. It lets everyone in the
newsgroup understand your message and rely to it, not just the
original poster. What you post may be wrong and need correction;
someone may have an additional important point to make; someone
may want to confirm that what you said is correct, etc.

Yes, another good point. Thanks for the addition.

Thank you all your input.
No viruses found by McAfee 7.1 with all lastest update.
After searched Google, found no similar cases or approaches.
I decided to re-install the Windows.

Thanks again.
