clock and other things missing

When I bought my laptop about ten days ago,
there were a couple of things in the upper
right corner of the screen. One was a clock.
Another was a scrolling list of news items.
Now those are missing, and I do not know
how to bring them back.

Look for a graphic in your system tray called 'Windows Sidebar' right click
it and choose open
