Clips won't preview

I imported an avi to MM 2.1 and it created clips in collections window.

First clip will preview fine and all clips look OK. When I click on any
clip other than the first the preview pane generates an image of the first
frame of the clip previous to the one selected and it will not play. If I
drag it to the timeline it will play OK but no clip in the collections window
other than the first one will play on the preview screen and all except the
first generate an incorrect image on the preview screen.

I have used MM before but this is the first time I have tried it on a new
computer. Computer is updated and I tried re-booting, deleting/re-loading
the avi and trying a different avi.

Thanks...you have a great site. I downloaded gspot but then I realized they
were not avi files they were wmv files which gspot does not support.

Are wmv files MM's own format? If so, I do not see how it could be a codec
problem. If not, is there any way to determine what codec is required for a
wmv file? These videos were downloaded off the net so I do not know how they
were created although I could go back to the site and ask if that would help.
