Clips do not register in preview pain

I have bought a new Laptop to help with my work...Media Centre version
software.
My clips imported into "My Videos" from camers. When "Imported into MM only
the initaial clip will will play in preview but not the majority....It is
possible to drag clips into storyboard wher they act normally in preview
screen...........Could someone please advis what I need to do to make
imported clips show/play in preview window....incidently, pointer indicates
clips is playing but nothing appears on screen........Many
