please guys give me a break if this is a little off topic --what type of
protection do i need for the above? pop up blocker,anti virus,anti
spyware,anti trojan,etc. i have norton 2006, but it doesnt stop other pages
from coming up while surfing--i know i'd get the best answer here

It's fine for you to ask about malware here. If you clean up your
computer, you won't have all the popups. Once you have a clean machine,
if you practice "Safe Hex" you don't need a lot of stuff running in the
background. My Windows machines run an antivirus (F-Prot), use the
Windows XP SP2 Firewall, and get scanned weekly with Ad-aware and
Spybot (free versions which do not run in the background). Because my
users are practicing "Safe Hex", the machines stay clean. These
machines are heavily used by teenagers who do gaming, messageboards,
instant messaging, etc.
