Anti Virus alert pop up again - using FireFox

XP SP3.
I am using FireFox 3.0.4 for web browsing. Recently while I am browsing the
internet, there are pop up about the
'Anti Virus 2009' advertisement pop up again and again, the pop up header is
Internet Explorer.
Why the pop up is IE while I am using FireFox?

I would guess there are spyware installed on my computer and this had
happened. I used the Lavasoft's Ad-Aware 2008 to clear these stuffs before,
so I will also use that to remove the spyware. I recall my memory I needed
to run this tools for 2 weeks to get rid of the spywares.

You don't say whether you have Anti-virus installed, or not.
If not, install AVAST; if you do already have an Anti-virus, DON'T install
AVAST.

Download, install and Update Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy.
Then reboot, and scan your computer in Safe mode with them, AND your AV.

If you can not download, install and update them in Normal Mode through the
Malware stopping it,, do everything in "Safe Mode with Networking"

Avast Anti-Virus is XP and Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions),
FREE, auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer.
And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at any
one time..
Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one).

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com

Download, install, and update.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode.

If unable to install above Programs in Normal Mode:
Sometimes Trojans, Viruses, Malware, etc stop you installing and/or updating
Programs to remove them.
If that happens, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking, and install, update
and scan from there.

time. The window has been authored to appear as though it is on Internet
Explorer (and it erroneously indicates the same thing on Firefox, and
presumably everything else).

In case anyone has missed the essential message: ignore the warning and *do
not* download Anti Virus 2009. It is a key logging trojan that steals
passwords, credit card details etc. and reports them back to its
originators. I have seen reports that there are several versions of the pop
up window including one or some where clicking *anywhere* in the window
(including the red 'X') starts the download process. Close your browser and
then stop the pop up through Task Manager.

Yes. It's time the browser-writers wised-up to the fact that letting a
browser simulate an OS dialog-box is a BAD idea. It should be a requirement
that browser windows always have the browser name in the status bar.

And I find it better, and quicker, to fix a client's computer by doing it my
way.

And, instead of uninstalling the programs after scanning(as a lot of techs
do to get repeat business), I leave them on there for the customer to use

business but merely communicated an informative advice from somebody who
knows the innards of his software, oh well.
What am I missing here? (Don't even answer the question. It was rhetorical

I have install McAfee Internet Security Suite.

Your choice, of course, but in my view, you have the second worst
anti-virus and security software available. Only Norton is worse.

Avast is a better anti-virus (and free). NOD32 is even better than
Avast, but not free.

Just saw this thread so comment/question might be covered already: Do
you have the "IE Tab" addon installed? If so, there might be a
reasonable explanation for what you are seeing.

have the "IE Tab" addon installed? If so, there might be a reasonable
explanation for what you are seeing.

What is "IE TAb" addon?
I got IE7 installed on my pc.
