What holds the chips onto the OEM Canon CLI-8 & PG5 cartridges??? Is it glued
on, or is the plastic from the cartridge melted & peened over in 2 spots ???

Ask Canon Tech Suppt. They should know.

The money that customers send them. :)

Outside the fact that they light up red and look real cute in my
printer and then not mysteriously close it down when empty, they serve
no real functional purpose other than roadblocking refilling
That is called insurance. They help insure that you will have a lower
risk of clogging the printhead, get the quality the printer was designed
for, and help lower the risk of fading.
in order to make me buy their heavily overpriced cartridges with
pretty chips.

But previous OEM sabotage techniques have never stopped me either . . .
Nothing will stop someone who does not care about quality, longevity or
clogging the printhead. Now if you print a great deal then the
printhead will be less likely to clog but that would be way above average.
