Clean unistall of Win XP

I have an older system that is currently running Windows
98. The system was purchase right before Win 98 came out
however, and the Windows 98 now running is from an upgrade
disk. I now want to upgrade via a clean install to Windows
XP (the system itself has been upgraded in other respects
and meets XP compatibility requirements), but need to know
if XP upgrade disk will recognize the 98 upgrade disk
as "qualifying product" when it asks during the install.
I've read that Windows 95, for which I have the full
version disk, does not qualify for XP upgrade. Thanks.

That will work too. Although you can't upgrade over the top of
Windows 95, you *can* use a Windows 95 CD as proof of ownership
of a previous qualifying version.

Either disk should work OK as a qualifying disk for using the Upgrade to
clean install. You can't upgrade 95 to XP, but you can use the 95 disk as a
qualifying disk for a clean install.

Yes the upgrade works as a qualifier.
The more preperation you put into the upgrade, the better it will go.

Thanks to everyone for the information. Especially that
Win 95 is recognized as qualifying for clean install of
XP "upgrade", though not for "upgrading" Win 95. Makes
sense when you think about it, but not sure how many folks
would look at it in those terms. Thanks again.
