Clean load winxp pro full ver.

I have reformatted maxtor 40 gig HD to NTFS one partion.
When trying to start winxp cd I get this error msg.
"setup is inspecting your computer's hardware
configuration"
All loading stops at this error
PLEASE HELP!!!!

I had a similar problem with XP Home. Unfortunately, I did something I
shouldn't have. To make a long story short, I made a boot disk, tried to use
DOS commands to make a partition on my C: drive and now my C: is gone *L*.
So, I am looking for help too. Is there any utility or software out there
that can reformat and install basic OS files on the root drive from a boot
disk or something? Otherwise, my thinking is that I'll have to take out the
drive and put it in a different comp, format it then install XP and put it
back in the original computer. Will that work?

I also made the six win xp boot disks and with disk one I
get the same error msg. as with winxp cd
