Problem re-installing winXP home

I have xphome sp2 on my machine and it works BUT, a long time ago when I
installed it, it put some files on my C:/ drive and he main part on my D:/
(separate drives).
Over the year it has had a few problems so I decided to re-install it all on
C:/drive. So, using nLite i made up a slipstream CD with my original WinXP cd
and the SP2 CD. So far so good.
I set the bios to boot from the CD and I got the "Inspecting H/Ware - Set-up
is loading...... " then lots of files flashing across the bottom of the
screen. Then I got "Starting Windows" and a few more files across the bottom
of the screen until I got to "Loading Keyboard lib...."Then the entire
machine just shuts down. I tried a couple of times with the same result. Then
i tried it with my original WinXP home CD and the same thing happens.
Luckily, my original INSTALLED ver of Win XP still works so i can still say
"HELP PLEASE..........."
MANY THANKS

A further point....... I tried loading the set-up from windows explorer and I
got the "What do you want to do screen?" I tried install winxp and got a
message that instal could not continue because the WinXP on the computer was
newer than the version on the CD. S, where to now?
I think that the problems is coming from the fact that my winxp is spread
over my c:/ & D:/ disks. Do I have to reformat BOTH hard disks? If so, how do
I do that? Winxp doesn't seem to like re-formatting itself!!
HELP!!!!
