New xp pro new maxtor HD formated NTLDR
When prompted to boot from cd is selected.
Getting message " setup is inspecting your computer's
hardware configuration..."
This must be some very serious stuff cause it has been
inspecting my hardware config. for over 30 min. and it
does this over and over again.

So, you are sure that the hardware is all XP compatible and that everything
is healthy?

I assume you mean: formatted NTFS.

Describe in detail "over and over again", please.

You have created multiple threads today on this topic. It's really best
if you keep them all in one. Otherwise it makes it hard for someone to
know what's been done, and what to suggest.

Borrow or download an image for a Win98 Startup floppy. Boot it and run
its FDISK to delete the partition you made. If that was an NTFS one it
will be a non-DOS partition.

Then boot the XP CD and let Setup do the partitioning and formatting for
you, when it will be done correctly
