Choices #1

Using a Sony DCR-HC21 video camera and uploading movies to my PC, my
FireWire does not work. A pop-up tells me that no capturing device is
found. I'm trying to solve that problem, but in the meantime, I can
capture using a USB connection.

I capture video and sound by setting the Audio Device to USB Audio
Device and the Audio Import Source to Microphone.

I know that a FireWire connection is preferable to a USB connection,
but what I don't know is what I lose by using USB.

What is the difference in result in capturing from USB and FireWire?

I know messages are overlooked sometimes, and I wonder if anyone can
provide an answer to the question "What's the difference in result in
capturing from USB compared to FireWire?"

Movie Maker works with firewire, and is spotty at best with USB.... that's
one difference in results.... great versus none

firewire gets you AVI files at full DV quality... the same as is on the
camcorder tape... USB gets you a compressed WMV file, with quality depending
on your choice of setting. The highest choice that comes with Movie Maker is
2.1 Mbps, more than 10 times less than the bitrate of a DV-AVI file.
