Black capture window. . .audio good

Using XP Media Center Edition with Sony DCR-HC21 camcorder. Preview video
box is checked. Problem is video being captured does not appear in the
capture window. Audio comes through just fine. When finished, the captured
video and audio appears as a clip, just fine, and plays back just fine. Only
problem is no video in capture window during capture. This same camcorder
and program works perfectly on desktop. Anyone got any ideas? Sony ruled
out a camcorder/driver issue.

Are you capturing via USB?
Sounds like it, Movie Maker works much better with firewire.

hmmm, then I am stumped. I would normally suggest swapping components such
as trying another IEEE cable or connecting to a friends computer with YOUR
cable to try to isolate a hardware issue other than the camera but since it
does actually capture I doubt that is the issue.
If it recently worked properly and now doesn't I would look into any codecs
you may have installed, I know Papajohn has a list of known problem codecs
on his website, or maybe try a System Restore back to a point where it may
have been working properly. Outside of that the only other thing I can think
of is reinstalling SP2 and WMM with it but that is a drastic step to choose
as a first step.

I tried a different IEEE cable. Same problem. I connected the notebook
computer to my plasma TV and used the plasma as the monitor, and the capture
window shows the video perfectly on the plasma screen. Very frustrating.
First time I've tried video capture so I don't think system restore is the
answer. Thanks anyway.

Your right it is frustrating.
I have one other thought though since it works on the plasma TV, wish I
could afford one of those, but not on the laptop. Have you checked the
manufacturers website for updated video drivers?
