.chm files

When I attempt to open a .chm file for IE, notepad, etc.
nothing appears to happen. The help works within the
Office 2000 Suite.

I goto start->Help and I receive the following dialog box:
Cannot open the
file:mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\Winnt\Help\windows.chm

Any help resolving this issue would be appreciated.

I am running Windows 2000 Pro SP4/fully patched.
256RAM
866MHz Dell

Thanks
Chris

Uninstall IE 6 (Return to a previous version). Reboot. Clean personal settings.

Then go to Start | Run | regedit | OK

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

and change the IsInstalled value to 0

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

and change the IsInstalled value to 0

Reinstall your current Service Pack. Reboot. Then reinstall Internet Explorer 6 SP1. Do NOT update IE with any cumulative updates prior to October 2003. Get the most current. Reinstall IE 6 and reboot.

Tell me how that goes.
