chkdsk 'undertermined error', stop

Have run chkdsk with all various options many times now.
Many 'orphan files' it tries to restore...but gives 'not enough disk space'
eventually for each.
Also, implies problems with 'indexing'?
Then stops altogether with 'undetermined error'.

Defrag tells me to run chkdsk...catch 22.


The above is where my troubleshoot has led me where my computer has been
'hanging' for long periods, especially on bootup. Sometimes turning on the
computer can take 10 minutes or more. Troubleshoot led me to this third
hard disk on my computer where I cannot check the disk or defrag etc as
described above. It is NTFS.

Anyone think of a 'next step' to check this HD. There's some critical stuff
on it I'd not like to lose. But if there's corruption, I can't seem find a
definite location in the files...seems sort of random, like read errors
rather than point source. I dunno.

Go to the website of the HD's mfg and get their diagnostic...then check the
HD...
if it's bad...back it up and replace it
