chkdsk problems

Hi there

A Windows XP machine I am working on is corrupted with an
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME blue screen stopping me from booting. I am
trying to perform a chkdsk from the recovery console. But since I can't read
the C: (bootable partition) file system I can't locate the autochk.exe file when
prompted.

My question is, from the recovery console, can I use a floppy disk with
autochk.exe loaded on the disk (from a different XP install) and point it to
the location a:\autochk.exe?

Or what other way is recommended?

Thank you very much for any advice.

I have tried this, this is when the error appears. after I type

chkdisk C: /P

at the command prompt, it attempts to locate the autochk.exe file which it
cannot find on the C: drive (given it is this drive that is having the mounting
problems/bad sectors)

So since it can't find the autochk.exe file, I was wondering if it is plausible to
enter in a floppy disk an autochk.exe file from a different XP install and
point chkdsk to a:\autochk.exe when it prompts me for the location of this
file.

Thanks again

Joji
