On windows XP, how do I run the checkdisk utility as the
computer asks me to do as the file " Information\_restore
{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5D-BF30-83E44C588624}\RP42\change.log "
is corrupt and unreadable.

Thanks for your help,

You can boot the recovery console and run
chkdsk /r
from the command line.

Restart the computer by using the Windows XP Professional operating system
install CD-Rom. Wait for the Windows XP Professional Setup program to
display the Welcome to Setup screen. Choose To repair a Windows XP
Professional installation by pressing R. Type the number corresponding to
the Windows XP Professional installation that you want to use, and then
press ENTER. You must type a number when prompted, even if only a single
Windows XP Professional installation exists. If you press ENTER without
typing a number, Windows XP Professional restarts the computer. At the
prompt, enter the password for the local Administrator account so that you
can access the contents of the local hard disk. Recovery Console accepts
only the password for the local Administrator account. If you do not enter
the correct password within three attempts, Windows XP Professional denies
access and restarts the computer.
