Defrag/Checkdisk conflict

Gren

When trying to defrag an external drive it tells me it's not possible as
checkdisk is scheduled on that drive. When I try to run checkdisk it says not
possible as the volume is in use and when I schedule checkdisk on startup it
only runs on C:, not the external drive. Running checkdisk from Windows
Explorer has no effect so I am going round in circles. This only occurs on
one of four external drives, can anyone help please?

boot up with a xp cd and
run the check disk via the

You have some anti-virus software monitoring it? Did you set some
software to automatically backup to it? Is there a recycle bin perhaps
