Check Spelling As You Type Disabled

I am using Word 2007 SP1 with Vista. If I go into Word Options -
Proofing and check "Check spelling as you type" it will work on the
document and I am currently in and any subsequent documents I create
during the time Word is open. But as soon as I close and reopen word,
the option is unchecked again. I can change any other option and it
will stick but "Check spelling as you type" and "Use contextual
spelling" will not stick.

Does anyone know if this option is a registry change or a change to
some file which I might not have rights? I am really drawing a blank.

Thanks,
Mike

Let me try again...I turn the "Check spelling as you type" option on
and exit Word. Upon re-entry, the option is disabled again. I want
the option to always ben enabled. I can reproduce this issue on every
Vista - Word 2007 machine in my firm (450 users). The setting will
not stay. Is this setting contained in a .dot file or is it a
registry entry?

The setting is saved in the registry (in the Word/Options key). It is
possible that you are being hit by some silly tech support that either
doesn't allow you to update the registry or refreshes it every time you
start.
